| PRICING The purpose of this information is to give some perspective on the costs associated with commissioning a hand-carved sign. It is only intended as a general guideline; all jobs will be specifically quoted at the time an order is placed. House numbers/cottage names Generally a small custom hand-carved house number or cottage name will start at around $300. If gold leaf or a carved graphic is added, or it is to be double-sided, or it is to include the addition of metalwork the cost will increase. Commercial wall signs The cost of a custom hand-carved commercial wall sign of about 6 square feet will start at about $900 and will increase with size, thickness of material (relates to the depth of a carving), or the complexity of the carving. Other factors that affect cost would be the number of words in the sign, the inclusion of metalwork, or gold-leaf elements. The average price for a wall sign is about $2000. Freestanding signs A single-sided hand-carved freestanding sign of about 8 square feet will start at about $1600 and will increase depending on the same criteria as mentioned above. Another factor affecting cost would be if it were double-sided. The average price for a freestanding sign is about $2800 (single-sided), $3400 (double-sided). Projecting signs Double-sided projecting signs of about 6 square feet will start at about $1800 (these usually require designing and building a custom metalwork hanger). The average price for a projecting sign is about $3200. Monument signs Some of my larger more elaborate monument signs cost $20,000 or more. These generally require at least some on-site supervision and construction work Crating, freight and insurance charges are separate from the costs mentioned above, and must be quoted at the time of shipment. GENERAL TERMS Once we have discussed your project, established a budget, and you have made the decision that you would like to have me build your sign(s), I will require a payment of 10% of the agreed budget as a "Design Deposit". This design deposit is a portion of the budget agreed upon (it is not an additional charge), and is intended to pay me only for my time designing for you. Because it is compensation for time that I will spend, it is non-refundable. The design deposit does not convey the rights of reproduction of any of my designs, (as you are purchasing a sign/carving which I shall construct that is represented by the designs, not the designs themselves). I pride myself in my ability to work closely with my clients, in order to give them what they want, within an agreed budget and time frame, and this is why initial feedback is very important. I expect that in some cases there may be minor changes required to a design, and I can usually do that without any additional charges, but if a significant amount of additional time is required re-designing, other than some minor modifications, additional charges may apply (with good initial communication, this rarely happens, and I tend to be fairly flexible). Once the designs are agreed upon, and the construction phase begins, a "Fabrication Deposit" of 50% of the remaining balance will be required to cover the actual cost of construction. The time of construction will depend on project complexity, but will be specified at the time a commission is received, and the fabrication begins. As construction proceeds, I will keep in communication with you and give you progress reports along the way. I can send pictures during construction, and upon completion (see a brief description). After the work is completed I will contact you for shipping instructions. The balance will be due prior to shipment, along with any crating, freight and insurance charges. (Freight cannot be sent collect) REFUND POLICY Because each sign is custom built to the unique specifications of a particular client there can be no returns or refunds allowed once the work has been started. If you contact me to stop an order before work has started I will be happy to grant a full refund, but once the sign has been started you will be billed for time and materials expended up to the point of a stop order. |
